The IGP Canard à Foie Gras du Sud-Ouest is an official guarantee of origin and quality. With the PGI, a foie gras from the South-West officially comes from a duck from the South-West.
Why PGI?
The Protected Geographical Indication is a European label. It guarantees :
- geographical origin.
- the quality, reputation or any other characteristic that may be attributed to that geographical origin.
- production and/or processing and/or preparation take place in the specified geographical area.
- compliance with specifications entrusted to INAO and government-approved certification bodies.
The geographical area of IGP Canard à Foie Gras du Sud-Ouest
Comprising the thirteen départements of Aquitaine, Midi-Pyrénées, Corrèze and part of Aude, the IGP Canard à Foie Gras du Sud-Ouest covers all traditional foie gras breeding, force-feeding and processing areas: Chalosse, Gascogne, Gers, Landes, Périgord, Quercy...
The IGP Foie Gras du Sud-Ouest association represents almost 50% of national foie gras production.
IGP Canard à Foie Gras du Sud-Ouest products
The Canard à Foie Gras du Sud-Ouest PGI applies to the following products:
- Raw products: foie gras, magrets, thighs, aiguillettes, hearts, manchons, gizzards.
- Processed products: whole foie gras, foie gras, blocks of foie gras with or without pieces, dried or smoked magret, confit.
These products all bear the regulatory indications that the product complies with the IGP Canard à Foie Gras du Sud-Ouest specifications.
