We all love a good burger, don't we? Did you know that in France, we ate 2 billion hamburgers in 2023? And while today the hamburger is emblematic of American culture, in reality, it originated in Germany. Hamburg to be precise. It was imported to the United States with the waves of German immigration in the 19th century. One of the distinctive features of this popular sandwich is its round bun, sprinkled with sesame seeds. Inside, meat, onions, gherkins, cheese, salad... At Esprit Foie Gras, we're particularly fond of the Gers burger, the one we prepare with our minced duck breast. So, are you tempted by a real burger made in Gers? Follow Esprit Foie Gras' Gers burger recipe 😊
The Gers burger is all about duck and quality ingredients!
A good Gers hamburger is first and foremost a tasty sandwich, made with local produce. Of course, we recommend that you make your own burger bun. All you have to do is cut it in half and heat it in the oven for a few minutes.
Then we invite you to fill it with quality local ingredients.
First and foremost, the meat. Our minced duck breast is the ideal basic ingredient for a good burger. It's made from carefully selected duck breasts from the Gers region. We delicately mince tender, flavorful duck breast meat to obtain a perfect texture and preserve the specific, slightly smoky taste of the duck.
When it comes to cooking duck, pink is best. We therefore recommend pan-frying the duck breast in a little hot fat. Allow 6 to 8 minutes, or 3 to 4 minutes on each side. At the end of cooking, you can place a slice of cheese of your choice (a good local goat's cheese will be perfect) on top of your duck breast to help it become runny and melting!
Depending on the season, you can add tomatoes, sautéed peppers, pickles, onions and, of course, salad to your burger!
In what order should you put the ingredients in a Gers burger?
Yes, the order of ingredients in a burger is important. And the Gers burger is no exception to this rule. Indeed, the order of the ingredients will influence the flavors. For our Made in Gers duck burger, we proceed as follows:
- First, we put the sauces on the warmed bread. Mayonnaise, ketchup or a mix of the two, it's up to you. You can even make them with Béarnaise sauce, for a truly local burger!
- Next, the salad. Avoid putting the salad in direct contact with the hot meat, so that it retains its crunchiness.
- The remaining ingredients, crudités and pickles, are then placed on top of the salad. They can be spread over the two buns for a well-balanced burger.
- Finally, at the last moment, place the meat and melted cheese on top and close.
Our tip for a successful burger party? Prepare the ingredients beforehand, so you can assemble all the burgers at the same time.
Then, we taste! And bite into it. We're also thinking of those with a sweet tooth, who can add a little of our foie gras to the burger!
And while it's said that in 2024, the French ate fewer burgers than in 2023, we're betting that our duck-based burgers made in Gers will change all that!
